Les choristes. Réalisateur: Christophe Barratier, 2004, 96 min.
Music professor Clément Mathieu (Gérard Jugnot) joins the faculty of a post-war French boarding school for delinquent orphan boys. Quietly disagreeing with the heavy-handed disciplinary philosophy of school director Rachin (François Berléand), Clément strives to transform the boys’ lives and build trust by offering them a positive outlet: the opportunity to participate in a boys’ choir. Through the power of song, he even convinces rebel Pierre Morhange (Jean-Baptiste Maunier) to showcase his immense vocal talent as one of the choir’s stars. A winner of two César Awards for Best Music and Best Sound, Les Choristes is a refreshingly understated celebration of the transformative power of music.
