TONIGHT! MIDWEST INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL -
In the Family by Joanna Rudnick
Tuesday,June 3, 2008
6:00 PM
Landmark's Century Centre Cinema
2828 North Clark, Chicago.
$7 for IFP members; $10 for all others
In the Family, a film by Joanna Rudnick produced by Kartemquin Films, takes an intensely personal look at what follows the results of a predictive genetic test. At age 27, Joanna confronted a strong family history of breast and ovarian cancers by getting tested for the "breast cancer genes." Learning she has a mutation that brings a drastically increased risk, she now faces an impossible decision: would you sacrifice your breasts, your ovaries, your fertility, to possibly save your life?
OPENING FILM: Chris Folkens brings us a triptych of music videos as "TRILOGY" follows a soldier (played by none other than the winner of NBC's American Gladiators, Evan Dollard) as he returns from war and suffers from the haunting images of his past. Featuring Chicago band The Lifeline. |

We received such great response after her brief presentation at our Producers' Series in April that we knew this topic deserved a stand alone event.
The traditional distribution system is rapidly changing and all independent filmmakers could use a little help navigating the new terrain.
Yvonne Welbon will discuss how to use the internet to actually make money self-distributing your film! Who couldn't use that kind of advice?
We hope to see you there. Just call us AT 312 235 0161 or visit chi.ifp.org to register for this great event.

CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED FILM HOLLY, OPENS IN CHICAGO THIS WEEKEND!
Friday, June 6, 8:45PM
Saturday, June 7, 6:30PM
Facets Cinemateque
1517 West Fullerton
The acclaimed film, ‘HOLLY’, starring Ron Livingston (Sex in the City, Office Space) is opening in CHICAGO this weekend (June 6th)!
HOLLY stars Ron Livingston (Sex and the City, Office Space), Chris Penn (Reservoir Dogs; in his last screen performance), Virginie Ledoyen (The Beach, 8 Women); and Udo Kier (Dogville, Dancer in the Dark).
Patrick (Ron Livingston), an American card shark and dealer of stolen artifacts, has been 'comfortably numb' in Cambodia for years, when he encounters Holly (Thuy Nguyen), a 12-year-old Vietnamese girl, in the K11 red light village. The girl has been sold by her impoverished family and smuggled across the border to work as a prostitute. Holly's virginity makes her a lucrative prize, and when she is sold to a child trafficker, Patrick embarks on a frantic search through both the beautiful and sordid faces of the country, in an attempt to bring her to safety.
Producers Guy Jacobson and Adi Ezroni took their lives in their own hands when they moved ahead with production on this highly acclaimed film. They were threatened many times by the Cambodian government, were held at gunpoint on more than one occasion and Ms. Ezroni was held hostage for two weeks.
HOLLY will be playing at the Facets Cinemateque in Chicago between June 6-12th.

Call for Entries: Chicago Underground Film Festival
Regular Deadline: June 16
Late Deadline: June 17
CUFF stands out on the festival circuit for having a unique programming niche, and garnering a following among hipsters, media, and industry alike. Each year, CUFF presents an accessible, savvy program of pics exploring the many definitions and interpretations of the "underground" concept. Selected films often ignore limitations of genre, and are made with passion and drive; alternative music films, political agitprop, formal experimentation, and high camp are not uncommon elements of the Festival program.
Past CUFF films, producers, and filmmakers have received honors and offers as a direct result of exposure gained and connections made at the Festival. Programming highlights from years past include premieres of NICE BOMBS, DANIELSON: A FAMILY MOVIE, Oscar-nominated documentary THE WEATHER UNDERGROUND, MONKS - THE TRANSATLANTIC FEEDBACK, and BLOOD CAR. Additionally, numerous CUFF films have gone on to receive theatrical distribution.
MISSION AND OBJECTIVE
The Chicago Underground Film Festival exists to showcase the defiantly independent filmmaker, and to promote films and videos that dissent from the mainstream.
MORE ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
CUFF is a great time for attendees, filmmakers, and industry. Daily screenings are followed by a great night of parties, events and concerts. In Roger Ebert's words, "What you get for your money is not just admission to the films but admission to a subculture."
Now in partnership with IFP/Chicago, CUFF will take place in tandem with the Midwest Filmmakers Summit, a gathering of the region's filmmaking community. The Summit will present networking opportunities, discussions, workshops and case studies of Festival films featuring various festival filmamkers and industry insiders. Past speakers have included Bob Berney, Richard Linklater, Neil LaBute, Rose Troche, Harold Ramis, Tod Lending, Bill Seigel, John McNaughton, Steve James, Anthony Kaufman, Ray Pride, Laurel Ward and many others.
CUFF organizers advise filmmakers that "if you suspect your film is 'underground,' it probably is." Submit to Chicago Underground Film Festival today!
